COMBO DRIVE PICTURES CO., LTD, founded by producer Wang Donghui in May 2012, is dedicated to the entertainment & media sector, through its strong international and domestic networks and relationships, in-depth sector knowledge and expertise it provide. It mainly offers financial consultancy, executive production services and investment opportunities for films and television series etc. In terms of film production and investment, the company has been cooperating with the top-casting and producing group in China.
Combo Drive Pictures has purchased all rights of Judge Dee Mysteries, the detective novels written by Dutch orientalist, diplomat and writer Robert van Gulik. The protagonist Judge Dee is based on the historical figure Ti Jen-chieh (c. 630–c. 700), magistrate and statesman of the Tang court, taken as the Chinese version of Sherlock Holmes by western. With holding the great IP, Combo Drive Pictures has cooperated with the UK writing duo Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble to creating and writing the scripts of these series since 2014. The scripts has been localized and polished by the Chinese writer. Moreover, the film franchise and comics etc. are being developed as well.Followed up by Detective Pu Songling, Combo Drive Pictures is developing its second detective historical drama, which is co-produced with one of the most powerful streaming platform iQIYI.
Combo Drive Pictures’ first renowned movie is Brotherhood of Blades, starred with Chinese top artists such as Chang Chen and Wang Qianyuan. The film, released on 7th August 2014, has been attracted much interests from the media and general public, and was known as the blockbuster of romantic marital arts. With five nominations at the 51st Taiwan Golden Horse Film Festival, the film won the Best Costume Design Award. Co-produced with New Clue Film, the thriller film The Witness, starred Yang Mi and Lu Han, has won more than 200million box-office in 2015.
Chinese Alien-style sci-fi movie, The Secret of Immortal Code, is released in the summer of 2018.Currently, Combo Drive Pictures is co-producing a kid and Panda movie with China Film Group together. Future projects, including romance, comedy, martial arts, and sci-fi features are under developing.
